THE Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Davao confiscated 15 Duterte plates in Davao City since the campaign period, an official said.
LTO-Davao Law enforcement section head Yuri Lim, during the I-Speak media forum held at the City Hall Conference room last Thursday, said, "Nag-start kami simula ng campaign, hinuhuli po talaga namin yan because there was no pronouncement as to the authority to use any novelty plate."
He added that violators caught covering their own plates with Duterte plates were fined P5,000.
He also said that their apprehension is only limited to those covering their plate number but if they are displaying plates higher or lower than their designated plates, they are exempted.
"Bawal yan kung kino-cover mo yung plate number, or brand new na sasakyan nilagyan mo lang ng Duterte plate or any plate, yun ang talagang violation," he said.
He said that if caught, brand new or unregistered vehicles will be fined with 10,000 while registered vehicles will be sanctioned with 5,000.
"It's subject for confiscation in favor of the government na po yung plate kasi hindi po siya authorized," Lim said.
Lim also urged those who are making and selling these commemorative and novelty plates to also help buyers be aware of the rules about using the plates.
"I am also appealing sa gumagawa yung plates to do their part, kung magbebenta man sila, (sana sabihan nila) yung owner or bumili, na huwag niyo lang takpan yung plate," Lim said.
He also said that aside from plates, LTO-Davao is also monitoring non-licensed or colorum vehicles used as carpools of students and apart from that they are also monitoring the taxis plying along the whole region asking for fare in per head basis.
Lim said that taxis which are practicing this kind of scheme are considered as colorum vehicles because it is not what is indicated in their registration.
