Chinese President Xi
Jinping sent a message to congratulate President-elect Rodrigo Duterte after
the Congress, as National Board of Canvassers, formally proclaimed the
president-elect afternoon of May 30.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Xi told Duterte the
Philippines has a long history of friendly exchanges with China, and the
Filipino and Chinese people enjoyed profound traditional friendship.
“A
friendly, stable and healthy development of Sino-Philippine relations conforms
to the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples,” Xi told Duterte
as quoted in Chinese Foreign Ministry statement.
Xi
added that to maintain and deepen the Sino-Philippine good-neighborly
friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation is the common responsibility of
the two leaders. We hope the two sides make joint efforts to promote the
Sino-Philippine relations back on a healthy development track, Xi said
The
Chinese leader is also hoping under the leadership of Duterte, the Philippines
will achieve development, and improve national infrastructures.
